Portable Surface to Air Missiles (PZRK)

Why all the fuss about Igla?

Igla (SA-18) launcher and missile

The Igla perenosnoy zenitno-raketnyy kompleks (PZRK) causes excitement because of the amount of damage it could do in the wrong hands relative to its small size and easy concealment.

Variants of Igla and its missiles are the most recent in a series of Russian portable anti-air missiles, which are in service with a number of militaries around the world, for example Finland.

This is a Strela (SA-7), an earlier form of PZRK - but the basic layout remains the same
